Jonathan Bertman, MD
(D) North Kingstown Town Council

We can do better.

This summarizes why I've chosen to run for North Kingstown Town Council. We live in a beautiful town, in a terrific state, in an awesome country, yet we are faced with many concerns and stressors that need not exist. Though we all have different priorities in our day-to-day existences, I believe that the vast majority of us truly want much the same from our lives: to nurture and teach our children, to protect our environment, to help those less fortunate, all while striving to grow, learn, and better ourselves and our family. As trite as this may sound, our country's founding fathers really had it right when they so eloquently wrote in the Declaration of Independence about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Yet we regularly face the problem of unhealthy and contaminated drinking water, closed beaches, unrepaired streets, annual water rationing, and unfair tax assessments. We have had a republican-majority Town Council for over a decade, and despite our taxes being much higher, we still are unable to fund our town in a way that solves these chronic issues. I know we can do much better. I will aggressively work to make North Kingstown the ideal village that encompasses the values we cherish while encouraging both our own and our community's environmentally-friendly growth and prosperity. If this sounds like a lot of political hype, then click on The Issues link to see exactly what I'll do to solve our problems.

I'm running for Town Council to really try to fix the myriad of problems we face, so if you agree that we can do better, vote for me on November 2, 2004. If you don't mind boiling your water, paying ridiculously high property taxes, or swimming in feces at our town beach, then vote for somebody else.
